Eight Reasons to Give

There are may be reasons you do not give to charities but here are eight reasons you should give and the positive effects that can come from giving.

1. Feel Good by Giving to Charity

A research that was conducted by the National Institutes of Health stated that participants who chose to donate a portion of $100 they were provided enjoyed activated pleasure centers in the brain. This was a controlled and scientific experiment, and it did show that people who donated money simply makes you feel better. We all can benefit from feeling better and being happy.

2. Helping Others in Need

There is never a perfect time to give but there are always people in our community that need our help. We live in a troubling world, and we all face financial difficulties at some time, but the reality is that when you donate money, you help others who need it.

3. Get a Tax Deduction or a Tax Credit

If you give to an approved charity, you can write off donations on your federal and state tax returns, and/or receive a state tax credit for your donations. Certain restrictions do apply, though and I would suggest that you consult with a professional tax advisor. Donating your money is a great way to reduce your tax liability, and you help others who need help.

4. Bring More Meaning to Your Personal Life

When you donate money to a charity, you can create opportunities to meet new people who have the same causes and interest. This can infuse your everyday life with more meaning and purpose. If you’ve been in a place where you are moving forward, whether personally or professionally, sometimes the simple act of giving your time or money can do the trick and reinvigorate your life.

5.  Promote Generosity to Your Children

When your children see you donating, they’re much more likely to adopt a giving mindset as they grow older. I know from personal experience. I’ve given money to different charities over the years and have always made sure that my children know of my efforts. Do the same with your children, and you might see similar results.

6. Motivate Family and Friends

When you let your friends and family know of your charitable giving, they may find themselves more motivated to step up their own efforts to donate. Helping out local charities in your community can bring a lasting change on where you live and helps your community to become more united. Your passions in the community can be a very positive and tangible effect of your own giving.

7. Realize that Every Little Bit Helps, Even your Time

You don’t need $10,000 to make a difference in someone’s life. Donating even $5 a month can help make a difference. If you can’t donate money, your time as a volunteer can be priceless to someone who needs another person just to be there to help.

8. Improve Personal Money Management

If you can set a scheduled donation of $25 each month for a particular charity, this can motivate you to be more attentive to your own finances to ensure you don’t fall behind in your monthly giving. Anything that will get you to pay closer attention to your bank account is a good thing—especially when it helps a local charity.
